Don’t Click On This Link! — No Seriously … DON’T

As a marketer you need to see this. Click on the link below, see what’s there, come back and read the rest of this post

DO NOT READ BELOW IF YOU HAVE NOT CLICKED ON THE LINK.
I assume you’ve come back from that page. Did you time your self? How long were you there? How much time did you waste? Don’t we wish our target market would listen to us and follow the instructions just like you did a minute ago?
So how can you apply what you’ve just seen to your marketing strategy.
1. DO NOT CLICK = You got my interest
2. Clicking further = It is interesting what’s at the end. (Copywriters would write … “I have important information for you but before I get to it, here is something you should know…) This works!
3. Story = The button starts to tell a story and you read every word of it. (Because you want to know what’s at the end)
4. It pushes you out = It tells you to leave and you keep pressing it. (Don’t you just feel like a kid?)
It’s funny how all of a sudden your advertising and sceptical filter stopped functioning. For some reason you were open to things being communicated to you. You were reading every word and not skimping.
When you create web copy or advertising peace that holds your reader’s attention like that … my friend you’ve achieved greatness.
Thanks Seth for the link.

OK, this drove me nuts. But you know what… it worked. If only a “don’t buy this product now” button would work the same way!

Wishful thinking.
On the other hand you can implement this tactic with Google PPC Ads. “Don’t Click This Ad”
That actually worked for online businesses.

I woulndn’t do that in an ad.. you’d get lots of clicks but a very low conversion rate.

Completely agree …. but, there are industries and keywords that can find this tactic helpful. For example …. targeting a very specific and high converting keyword. That way you know the traffic that will come from there is in fact interested in your offer.
