How to Get Links Naturally? (Stop paying the prostitute.)

As we all know … to rank well on Google and other search engines, you need quality links (well and other 199 different things). But, links are the gold that drives your ranking. The only issue is that Google, most of the time, knows when a link is obtained naturally or when it was paid for.

So … every one screams “Get links naturally, but how do you do that???” Here is a short list of the techniques I use. NOTE: Some of these will apply to your business and some won’t.

  1. Content … yes, we all heard this before, but this is the foundation. Write something interesting and unique in your industry
  2. Create comparison charts where you can compare services, jobs or other relevant things
  3. If in your industry there is a tough issue that has different opinions (and it’s current) get opinions of different authorities in the industry and publish it on your site
  4. Interview people in your industry!
  5. How about creating a “Teleseminar” that you can then host on your site. How about that teleseminar describing issues in your industry?
  6. Create a tool that might be helpful to others
  7. Create a discussion forum
  8. Add a Blog to your site and write in it as often as possible
  9. Talk about current issues, news and controversies on your site
  10. Post schedule of events on your site. Others might link to it.
  11. Post visual history of your industry for others to learn about
  12. How about posting an article on how to choose the right company in your industry?

This is what I have for now.

  1. Yes Igor, I have wondered whether paid links are really effective and so far not bothered with them. Reciprocal linking is hard work trying to find partners who a) respond b) add the link correctly and c) retain the link. Writing good artciles is actually hard work. When I write an article I take at least a day studying keywords, a day or two investigating the subject, a day writing a draft and a final day writing the artcile on a web page. But hopefully that effort will pay off in the long run.
