The 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Igor Mordkovich

I am guessing you’ve seen this Tag game going on around online bloggers. One blogger started it off where he would say 5 things no one knew about him and then tag 5 more people to follow the chain. There are now about 50+ bloggers who’ve followed this thing and wrote about themselves.

You know why this works? Because we LOVE to talk about ourselves and we do it every chance we get. I am no different, here we go. 5 things you didn’t know about Igor.

1. I got my first job in U.S. when I was 13 years old. My salary … $1.25 / hour. That was in 1994

2. I got my first SEO project in 2001 to optimize an online gambling website to rank in top 5 on Google (yea, I know you’re smiling right now). Not an easy task. I got paid $800 for promising quick turn around at that time thinking that a $90 software can do it for me. That didn’t work. I returned the money.

3. I was born in Ukraine or Russia USSR back then (same sh*t), oh and just like Rand, Barry and Jaimie, I am Jewish (not religious though).

4. I used to dance competitively for 7 years (ballroom / Latin). I sang in restaurants and played piano in the Italian wedding band (while in college). Every wedding, someones face would get slammed with a cake (fun stuff).

5. I am a big Queen (Classic Rock Band) fan. Actually my first website that I created in 1997 was a Queen fan site.

Now I am going to tag 5 people to continue this thing. Let’s try Seth Godin (I know it’s a very long shot, but hey, who knows), Stoney, Shimon, Mike & Vishen and Yaro Starak.

  1. Hi Igor,

Interesting post. You say you were born ‘in Ukraine or Russia’ — why not just Ukraine? I mean, it’s a bit like saying I was born in Greece or Turkey, make your choice.
Apart from that, I must admit you have achieved a tremendous level of success. I’ve reading your newsletter ever since you started it and you gone from strength to strength. I’m very glad you now have added a blog to your site so we can interact with each other and share ideas.
Talk to you soon and poka,
    Torsten

  2. Torsten,

Thank you for the kind words. So you still remember those 9 page long letters I wrote a few years ago, huh? :-)

With the Ukraine and Russia thing … I am sure you know it was all one thing and then the separation. Borders were set, but most people still call it Russia and the language that’s being spoken is still … Russian.

    Torsten, thanks for commenting.

  5. Hi Igor, thanks for clarifying the Ukraine/Russia question, now I know what you mean. It’s funny that so many people think Ukraine and Russia is the same thing, they have a lot in common but then again they are different.
As for your letters, yes I read all of them because they were written in a very fresh and intriguing style. I thought to myself: “This guy is amazing, he is describing all the little but important things he sees when he looks around.”
I’m sure you are on the right track!
