Most Common E-commerce Website Mistake with the Phone Number

OK … very simple, short and to the point.

While doing some online shopping, I am browsing different websites (electronics, home audio, etc). I find what I like and I am printing it now to call these guys up later when I have more time to ask questions and maybe purchase.

Time comes for me to call. Whoop … out of 5 sites 3 printouts don’t have the phone number. Actually they do … it’s just that the phone number was in white color on a dark background. For the other 2 it just didn’t fit on the print out.

Lesson to e-commerce websites that like when consumers call them … do a printout of your home page and a product page. Can you see your phone number on them?

  1. I think one thing a lot of web developers tend to forget is that while at least 99% of the monitors can display millions of colors, most office printers are monochrome! Its not only important to print it out… but also important to see what your graphics look like in a black and white print out.

  2. Kian, that’s a good suggestion. Anytime something goes live, companies should look at their site using different monitor sizes, resolution and colors.

Also, by looking at the web stats, you can actually see the most common screen resolution used by your target audience. If 70% of your visitors use a resolution of 800×600 you have to be sure to make your site look good in that resolution.
